"Summer Day in Odessa" was funded by the Young Academy of the Arts and the Cultural Fund Foundation. The Jewish Odessa is the focal point of the film. I draw a picture of a modern Jewish community defined by a mental connection or even a myth - despite emigration and atheism. This is exactly what makes this community so special. This myth of Odessa as a free city lives further on in people regardless of different policies. It makes citizens of Odessa to „Odessites“ no matter where and how they live. The film shows people who come from very different Jewish backgrounds forming "the" Jewish community of Odessa creating it again and again.
