BLENDER

DVD at Amazon
Soundtrack by Donald Rubinstein DVD at Psychiatrie-Verlag

The title stands for a mountain in the Allgäu foothills. The parents of filmmaker Susann Reck founded an open home for the mentally ill and gave it the name of the mountain, Blender. The film portrays the lives of six residents over a period of one year. At the same time, it is an autobiographically inspired documentary film in a special place, which is characterized by its impressive nature, the author's view of her childhood and the coming and going of patients. »Blender« does not primarily deal with being crazy or different, but shows the protagonists with their whole, sometimes dramatic individuality and their own inner logic.

A touching and convincing filmic document that is also suitable as a learning film for (psychosis) seminars and for thematic film screenings with discussion.

BLENDER MERCHANDISING

The pills

When I was little, I was often bored on the blender. There were no other children I could play with that's why I often went with the nurses, at least something happened. One of the high points of the day was for example the issue of the medication - at least I had the impression at the time. The nurses then balanced with giant trays, on which the names of the patients stood by Corridors of the houses, and little cups of colored pills. And while that was happening, no one remained indifferent, at least my memory. There were people who didn't feel like taking the pills, and some even checked whether they swallowed them. Others messed with the staff and started screaming. It was visibly embarrassing for some to take the pills - of course I had no idea why. There were shop talks about which pill was easier to swallow and whether it should be shredded better. And of course it was also a lot about the patients getting nightmares and fear. The pills tired or, on the contrary, caused a kick in all possible directions. The decisive thing for me in any case was that they seemed to trigger a lot. The cups were also colorful, as were the pills. To me they looked like sweets stored in a huge closet, for which I unfortunately had no key. I really tried to crack it. So- I also wanted pills like that and complained to my father. And then he actually gave me a small can, which he refilled with my medication every day: gummy bears, chewing gums and smarties. I thought it was great, but of course I've forgotten it over the years. Until I came across this can from a few months ago and the memory came back.
